Inshore Report:
We are in the middle of the summer doldrums so fishing efforts need to be more precise. The best shot at Stripers will be either dusk through early dawn with daytime action accounting for very little action and mostly smaller fish. The key to the Stripers is working cooler water so this can mean either deeper holes or incoming tides. Bluefish in the 2-4lb range are spread across the Bays but have been most concentrated in and around the Inlets. Snappers are available in all locations and respond well to small jigs and spearing. With the abundance of Snappers, the smart fishermen seeking doormat Fluke are liveling the Snappers in 45-60' outside the Inlets and have been scoring with many double digit fish this week. Porgies and Sea Bass are still available on the wrecks and reefs, responding well to clam and squid baits fished on hi-lo rigs. There have been some scattered reports of mid-size weakfish in the Robins area caught mostly bass by catch for those seeking Porgies. The fall run is only a matter of weeks away so now is the time to prepare.
Will report back again after my next trip!
